Even if you have previous experience backpacking we always recommend trying out all of your gear before you arrive for your trip. That way you can work out your pain points before you arrive whether that's just cleaning out the cobwebs, inadequate/missing gear or oiling some rusty knees. Here's a few things to start with:

  • Add some gear to your pack and go on a walk or hike at least once a week - gradually increase your distances up to 10 miles with a 35 pound pack
  • Take the stairs and do some cross training 2 to 3 times a week
  • Practice setting up your tent in your living room or backyard and lay out your gear to ensure you have everything on your checklist
  • Rest is as important as training. Allow time between your workouts for your body to heal and rebuild itself - tapper off your training as your trip approaches and use the week prior to rest

Step 3
Arriving at Yosemite

Remember to arrive 15-30 minutes before your arrival time. You'll want to have directions printed or saved offline as you're likely to lose cell phone service in the park. If you're driving or carpooling, keep in mind that park entrance fees are $35 per vehicle and may only be paid by debit or credit card at this time.

You will be required to print out your email confirmation for the trip and the CUA Client Overnight Wilderness Permit Entry Form that we will email you the week of the trip. The names on both of these documents must be the same as the name on your ID - these documents exempt you from the day-use lottery.

And don't forget to check the weather prior to your trip to ensure you have all the gear you need and are totally ready to go. Click the green button below to get the latest weather.
