In Memory of Tom Trauger

HONORING TOM TRAUGER

Always on our minds, forever in our hearts.

Tom Trauger died while riding an annual century in Nevada with 20 friends when a truck struck and killed 5 of the cyclists and injured 4 others. Tom was loving husband, a caring father and a world-class triathlete.

After returning from an Ironman, his stories would light up the whole office, and his passion for his sport inspired everyone around him. Of course, he was a spectacularly skilled accountant as well, leading Sports Basement’s accounting department with more skill and acumen than we could have ever dreamed of.

Most importantly, he was also a constant source of kindness, humor, intelligence and leadership, and everyone who met him was made better by having known him.

He will be missed beyond measure.

BIKE SAFETY & DRIVER AWARENESS

We want to honor Tom's memory by spreading the word about bike safety and driver awareness. We ask you to notice every cyclist you share the road with, and to remember that they are someone's father, mother, son or daughter. Your awareness can protect their lives.

My condolences to the family and friends of Tom and the other cyclist involved in the accident. As a cyclist, I’m always concerned about the risk, but I know that through our efforts, we can bring awareness to others outside of our community so that people aren’t deterred from enjoying the road as we do.

What a tragic event for all those involved. My heart goes out to the families. Shows how vulnerable us cyclists are on the road. Hopefully they put this driver away for a long time for making the decision to drive under the influence of drugs and ruining innocent lives.
