5 Reasons to Rent a Bike (from Sports Basement)

We at Sports Basement love everything bike-related but our bike rental program holds a special place in our hearts (and stores). Our bike rentals give you the thrill of buying a new bike without actually having to buy a new bike. It’s like the whole “try before you buy” concept, but you don’t have to buy! And at Sports Basement, you’ll get the best bike rental rate around. Not to mention all of the awesome perks of renting a bike...on second thought, we think they are definitely worth a mention:

No one has to drive
And if no one has to drive, no one has to be in traffic! With the Bay Area starting to look more and more like LA at rush hour, we think that’s a pretty huge pro. Why worry about who has to focus on driving around when you can rent a bike for you and a friend then hop on a quick BART ride or Light Rail and just cruise through to your final destination? With 10 stores you can rent a bicycle from, you’ll be able to explore the whole Bay Area by two-wheeled transport! The best part is, you can drop off your bike rental at any Sports Basement you like, at no extra charge. It’s like renting a car but cheaper, more flexible, and more eco-friendly. (Pssst! Check out our guide to riding Bay Area public transportation with your bike!)

Renting a bicycle = renting a new hobby
If you’re already into cycling you know that all of the gear required for any type of cycling can add up. Renting a road bicycle or renting a mountain bike can be an easy and cheap way to try out a new hobby! If you’ve got a need for speed and want to try out some serious road cycling, you can rent one of our top notch carbon road bikes like the Cannondale SuperSix Evo. (Cue the ‘ooohs’.) Or maybe you want to dabble in mountain biking. You can rent the best mountain bikes from Scott, Cannondale, and Ibis. (We highly recommend the Hakka MX. Like, super highly.) Renting a bicycle is also a great way to test out products you’re interested in buying since you’ll get to test them right where you’ll use them: on the road & trail.

(Re-)Discover your favorite spots
The Bay Area has so many amazing things to see from beautiful parks to eclectic coffee shops. Whether you’re riding through your favorite spots or looking to explore a new part of town, doing it on a rental bike is the perfect way to feel like a tourist -- in a good way. By taking the bike lane instead of the fast lane, you’ll get to slow-down and enjoy your favorite spots in a whole new way or even discover places you wouldn’t have seen from the driver’s seat. Plus, all of our bike rentals come with a bike lock and helmet so you can explore worry-free. We recommend taking our electric bicycle rentals for a spin so you can tackle any hills (lookin’ at you San Francisco) that may be on your route.

Become a pro tour guide
Who doesn’t love to be a tour guide when friends & family come to town? You’ll really get to show your city savviness when you show them around on a bike! Renting a bike means everyone can go on the adventure without using an ill-fitting bike or riding on your handlebars for miles (we really don’t recommend that, trust us). They’ll get the right size bike rental, helmet, lock, and even a stow-pouch for their phones, snacks, & souvenirs. Did we mention no one has to be in traffic?

Stress-free family rides
It’s true, you can rent bikes for the whole family stress-free. Choose from renting bike trailers, trail-a-bikes, & kids’ bikes! No matter what size they are, you can rent the right bike gear for them without worrying about where in the garage you’ll have to store it after. Plus, when you reserve ahead, we’ll have it all ready to go so all you have to worry about is making sure their favorite snacks have been packed.

@ Hope Bass Hi Hope, sounds good! You’ll be able to see pricing for our different rental bikes and durations here: https://shop.sportsbasement.com/collections/bike-rentals – we recommend making a reservation online before you arrive. And the great thing is you can return your rentals at any location regardless of where you rented it from, for when you head over to Santa Rosa.

Hi We arrive in San Francisco, June 30 and fly out July 9th. We want to ride around San francisco, Golden Gate Park, Presidio, Golden Gate Bridge and Sausalito from June 30-July 3, (we need 4 electric bikes). Then go to Santa Rosa and bike around Sonoma County. We’ll be staying in SAnta Rosa.
In SAnta Rosa we only need two mountain bikes from July 3-July 9th. Thank you and we look forward to renting from you. Please tell us what pricing would look like and in Santa Rosa what a week long rental package would look like. Thank you, Hope and Kenton Bass
