Let's talk about Altra!! What? Again?? These are some good lookin' shoes!

Here are some important deets:

  • Drop: 0 mm (Of Course. Classic Altra!!)
  • Heel Stack: 22 mm
  • Forefoot stack: 22 mm (22-22=0. math)
  • Weight: 7.9 oz (That's light!!)
  • Price: $140.00 (Hey, that's pretty good!!)

Upper:

Altra states that the main upgrade in version 2 is the new engineered mesh upper. This exceptionally breathable mesh is a solid improvement for this low-profile road shoe, a relative of Altra's Escalante. Based on available data, Altra seems to have done a great job crafting a lightweight yet durable mesh, and don't forget, breathable. Personally, as a Canadian, I appreciate this, but others may feel differently. The durable mesh retains minimal heat, which may not be ideal for those seeking extra warmth on cooler winter runs.

Midsole:

Despite only 22mm of stack, Altra's addition of a firm EGO midsole boosts responsiveness, delivering a dynamic and lively ride. Version 2 has a significantly stiffer platform with a slightly reduced forefoot flexibility. The Altra Escalante 2 is a neutral, zero drop shoe with a stiffer feel, making it a different experience from the lighter, more flexible first version. Folks that are bigger-boned or hard strikers may not appreciate this stiffer, light cushion.

Outsole:

Great grip for any weather condition

Final Thoughts:

Who is gonna want this shoe then? It's like a sports car, it looks great but not everyone will like the ride. People who are already fans of the Altra zero-drop will LOVE this shoe. This shoe is great for a minimalist who is looking for a peppy tempo feel while training for his 10k or more.

Don’t forget, this has also become a pretty decent gym training shoe with a Solstice feel, but a running pedigree.
