Later this summer we'll be opening our newest store in San Jose, in Almaden Plaza next to the Costco! We're renovating a massive 80k+ square foot space and filling with our weird and wonderful mix of high-quality and affordable outdoor gear and apparel, bike, ski, and camp rental equipment, all our services from bike and ski shops to gait analysis, and of course, the coolest staff imaginable. Tons of our staff are locals, and we're beyond excited to bring our unique brand of community events, deals and general shenanigans to south San Jose.

We've been looking to open another storefront in the San Jose area for years, but it's a challenge finding a space big enough to hold our massive inventory, not to mention our rentals department and shop services. Plus, we always want to be in a spot where our community events can thrive - our run clubs and ride groups are always a blast, but they're even more fun where there's a little nature nearby to inspire and invigorate, like the Guadalupe River Trail, or Almaden Quicksilver Park. When we found this spot in Almaden Plaza, it was the fountain plaza itself that clinched it - we could so easily imagine holding outdoor yoga classes or one of our Fests out there. The large windows and high ceilings told us we'd be able to build out a beautiful, exciting interior space as well, with lots of room for community spaces (which will be free to book)! 

But what really makes us excited for our San Jose store is the fact that so many of our staffers already call this area home. Eric Solberg, who will be leading our crew as General Manager of the Almaden store, says, "I'm just so proud to be leading the crew here at Almaden. I've spent much of my life in the San Jose area working in the outdoor industry, most recently as GM of Sports Basement's Sunnyvale store, for over 10 years. I actually started very close to where our new Almaden store will be opening, so it feels a lot like coming home for me." Sports Basement has always put community first - it's part of our mission as a company - but being able to support the community you live and work in takes it to a whole new level. We can't wait to see how we can serve south San Jose and help you enjoy the great outdoors!
