A Top-Tier Racer

I'm a huge fan of the Cielo X1 but didn't think it was a top-tier racing shoe. I use it mainly for long runs at moderate to fast paces and tempo/threshold workouts. It was just a little too heavy for going all-out. The 2.0 is a different animal and is almost 1.5oz lighter, which is a huge difference...

Never had problems pronating before this shoe

I was really excited to try out the shoe, having run thousands of miles in Cliftons, Rincons, and Machs without any difficulty. I wanted to love this shoe. I really did. And when I put it on my foot, it felt wonderful. The laces were great, the toebox, the feel of the upper, everything was perfect. ...

The fit was narrow and could not accommodate my custom orthotic. The sole is so high that you have to be careful you don't turn your ankle.

It gets the job done… but at what cost?

If your goal is to run as fast as you can and transcend to untouched speeds for a race, then these shoes will certainly do the job. However in return, the lack of stability will leave your ankles feeling extremely weak and sore. You may get blisters around your ankles from the sharp upper lining of the shoe that has no cushion or added support, potentially causing you to bleed through the incredibly thin material… but, you will most-likely get that PR you were looking for. Are you willing to take that chance?

Official Response by HOKA ONE ONE

We were aiming for five stars across the board with this style, but if you didn't feel stable in them, that's a non-starter. Let's have you send this pair back within the 30-day exchange window so we can get into a pair that you will want to run in every time. Be sure to look at the Mach 6 made with speed focused design details throughout; we’ve enlisted a new creel jacquard upper with zonal breathability and an internal gusset to deliver the foot-hugging comfort required to set your next PR. The exchange process bit.ly/HOKAEXRT is a cinch to get started.

These shoes do not stay laced up. They are a decent shoe but when my feet swell in the evening I can't get them back on. Other HOKA are superior for much lower price point.

TERRIBLE QUALITY

I purchased the shoe on 02/01 in the Miami Marathon Expo. I have used the shoe two times in the track, less than 20 miles in them, and the rubber strips in the back completely fell off. Customer support told me it was a known issue, to send the shoes for an exchange. Send them through UPS (had to pay for the shipping), just to get them back and now Hoka is telling me they are out of warranty (4 months since I bought them at the Hoka booth) and that this is normal wear and tear. VERY DISAPPOINTING :( Never buying Hoka again.

Official Response by HOKA ONE ONE

We understand your frustration and disappointment after receiving the update on your return. Due to many varied factors such as terrain, frequency of wear and natural elements, some pairs may wear quicker than others. Although we do cover manufacturing and material defects, normal wear and tear is not covered under our warranty, and unfortunately, we aren’t able to override the final decision. I've bought several pairs of Hoka running shoes over the years, and this pair beats them all. They are light but cushiony, my feet don't get tired after long runs and the shape of the bottom seems to assist me to keep moving forward. I definitely recommend these shoes.

I am a forefoot lander, this shoe works well for me landing on forefoot and I find that it enhances my natural stride. I wore it in Boston Marathon this year and i enjoyed the ride. This shoe also seems to make hills easier. It's a true race day shoe.

I really wanted to love this shoe. It's incredibly light in weight and bouncy which I prefer. However, very flimsy around the ankle, not much support. Ive only worn them for about a week, running a total of 20 miles and the bottom has already started to peel. Very disappointed given how expensive these shoes are.

I wear shoes for running with plates which really prevents injuries for my legs/feet. i love my Hoka Cielo 1 and bought Cielo 2 both in size M7.5. The Cielo 2 runs one size smaller so I had to return my 7.5 for size 8. The size 8 fit is same as my 7.5 Cielo 1. Great new Cielo 2 ..love it for the run.
