If you're not a gram-counting, points-chasing race fanatic, why would you sacrifice your comfort with a carbon-soled tap dancing shoe? That was Shimano's thinking when designing the SH-WM63 Women's Shoes. Whether you're four hours into a ride, or hiking your bike through an unrideable section, the responsive, yet slightly flexible polyamide sole and robust rubber lugs are much more comfortable than a svelte race slipper. But with three straps and a women's-specific fit, the shoes definitely don't sacrifice a top-tier fit.
To maximize durability, Shimano chose stretch-resistant synthetic leather for the upper. Mesh panels were added to improve airflow, which keeps your feet cool and dry on warm days. A micro-adjustable buckle keeps your heel locked in place, while the two hook-and-loop straps at the forefoot are easily adjustable, allowing you to find the perfect compromise between a snug fit and maintaining proper bloodflow.
As you'd expect, Shimano built the SH-WM63 on its women's-specific last to help tailor the fit to your foot. The last sits on a reinforced polyamide midsole, which blends direct response with greater flex, and greater comfort, than a more race-oriented carbon fiber sole. The durable rubber lugs on the bottom are built to withstand plenty of hike-a-biking, which makes the WM63 appropriate for both cyclocross and trail riding applications.
