The 2018 Cannondale Synapse promises to make riding easier for just about any cyclist. It isn’t simply down to the frame’s pedaling efficiency, nor is it because of how well it absorbs road vibration. The 2018 Cannondale Synapse Carbon Disc Women’s Ultegra Di2 in specific makes riding easier holistically, without compromise. Endurance road bikes are often focused on making a ride smoother, and the new Synapse does the same thanks to its Synapse Active Vibration Elimination (SAVE) micro-suspension. SAVE consists of a series of engineered flex zones through the frame and fork to dampen road vibration and increase overall rider comfort. To do so, they’ve included a 25.4mm seatpost with integrated seat clamp (claimed 36% better vibration deflection), and a new offset fork. Cannondale have introduced size-specific tubing profiles, head tubes, and steer tube diameters, to make sure the Synapse rides just as intended for every size range: smoothly, without isolating the rider from enjoying the ride. They’ve also added tire clearance: the bike can now fit up to a 32c tire with clearance to spare. Fender mounts further add to the Synapse’s practicality. If there is anything unique about the new Synapse, it is how fast the bike feels despite all of the micro-suspension technology. Headtube and bottom bracket stiffness is up by 10%, ensuring the bike tracks with precision through tight corners. Cannondale also spec size-specific tubing profiles, head tubes, and steer tube diameters to ensure each Synapse handles and rides exactly as they intended it, regardless of size. Weight is down to just 1100 grams for a standard carbon frame, the feeling of agility the previous bike had. It handles precisely through high-speed corners that would usually leave endurance road bike riders isolated. The Synapse still features that impressive plushness and absorbance over imperfect roads, allowing the rider to focus without distraction on putting power to the pedals. Disc brakes bring you to a stop with little effort, regardless of how long the ride has been.
