Although we'll always do our best to adhere to this schedule, it is often dictated by factors outside of our control and is therefore subject to change. We will run this trip rain or shine.
Day 1 - Saturday
9:00am: Meet at Pinnacles Campground Store, East Entrance.
9:00am - 9:15am: Introductions and overview of day
9:15am - 9:30am: Drive to Bear Gulch Day Use Area
9:30am - 9:45am: Hike to climbing zone
9:45am - 3:30pm: Instruction and climbing
3:30pm - 4:00pm: End of day wrap up, hike out and drive to campground
4:00pm - 10:00pm: Set up camp, enjoy refreshments, swimming pool, showers(fee), dinner, campfire, hangout.

ANCHORS & LEAD CLIMBING TRACK: Anchors for Top Rope, Lead Climbing and Rappelling. The goal of this course is not just to teach you theory, but to get you practicing your new skills out on the rock face under expert supervision. Not everything we teach can be learned from a book, there’s no absolutes in the “Wild”, so we teach creative problem solving when the answer is, “It depends.”
Strengths and qualities of baseline equipment
Basic 2 bolt sport anchor systems
Natural anchor systems
Rappelling with a Grigri and ATC
Put it all together in practice on the top of a wall.
We will discuss how to manage risk and fear in the “cliff edge” environment and why we trust our “Bombproof” systems.
In order to maximize your time on the rock, we will provide you with a small homework assignment prior to the course. It will contain a list of knots to practice and reading material covering the strengths and weaknesses of the baseline equipment used in the course.
Day 2 - Sunday
7:00am: Wake up call in camp
7:00am - 9:00am: Coffee, Breakfast, Discuss the day, Break down camp
9:00am - 9:15am: drive to Bear Gulch Day Use Area
9:15am - 9:30am: Hike to climbing zone
9:30am - 3:30pm: Instruction and climbing
3:30pm - 4:00pm: End of day wrap up and hike out
INTRO TO CLIMBING TRACK: Free Climbing Day
An awesome day of free climbing outdoors! There is no curriculum for the day, so you'll get to climb as much as you want! You'll have the opportunity to practice and improve upon the skills you learned on Saturday and discover new locations in the park.
ANCHORS & LEAD CLIMBING TRACK: Beginning Lead Climbing. We'll spend this day learning the skills to lead climb then put them to use while "mock" leading on the rock.
Safety concerns and risk management in a cliff base environment
Introduction to all the gear necessary for lead climbing
Safe and secure lead belay technique with an ATC
Clipping bolts, quickdraws and lead rope efficiently and safely
Review basic sport anchor design for bolted anchors covered from the previous day/Anchors course
Reading and understanding guide books and route topos
"Mock" Lead Climb 2-3 routes
Lead belay 2-3 routesIf there is time: Cleaning and rappelling off a bolted anchor
Climbing Skills Available
For new climbers: Learn to Belay, Tie-In and Basic Movement techniques
Learn to build Anchors for the most common types of top rope situations
Learn to Lead Belay and Lead Climb
Get in depth knowledge of the gear and safe climbing practices
Learn how to rappel safely
Setup at least one top rope anchor and rappel down the rock face
Mock lead at least 2 routes
Gain the confidence to “Do It Yourself!”
Comfortable, wicking athletic clothing with pants or capris to cover knees. No Shorts

2-3 liters of water
