We keep it green at the Basement
You may have noticed that our logo is green, but our green-ness goes much deeper thant that! Each of our stores has collection bins for you to recycle those mistery items you're not sure what to do with, from energy bar wrappers (they get turned into bags!) to climbing ropes (they get turned into leashes for rescue pups!). In fact, we recently won an award for our recycling program! Specific recycling is listed on each store page.
But being green is about reducing wast too—that's why we introduced our refillable propane program! Basementeers who buy a refillable propane canister from us can refill it for free, forever. So far, we've saved nearly 11,000 canisters from landfills!
Isobutane Canisters (no propane)
Like many kids from the 80s, Matt grew up playing tons of different sports, but his first true love was soccer. He played competitively for 11 years before hanging up the cleats and picking up some running shoes! He was an All-American athlete in college and even earned a NCAA Championship for the 800m. After college, he left the east coast for California at the invite of the Nike Farm Team, an Olympic training group in Stanford! 3 years later, he applied for a position at SB Sunnyvale and has been here ever since, running, cycling, camping, and even golfing from time to time. We're stoked to have him leading the team up in Santa Rosa!
Stafflete Dana Treiber-Martin
Dana has been a marketer at Sports Basement for almost a year, but if you had just met her, you’d think she’s been with us forever. She helped us get our Santa Rosa store off on the right foot in June of 2017 and provided immeasurable support during the North Bay Fires later that year, connecting our resources to where they were needed. She is now working towards opening our new store in Novato as a Senior Marketer. You might be asking, has she always been a superhero? The answer is yes. Before being one of our most talented marketers, she worked at the American Cancer Society for 16 years and she also supports the Marin Bicycle Coalition’s bike safety efforts. That’s probably why her favorite thing about working at SB is the Basementeer program.
Apart from being an incredible human being, Dana is also a super talented cyclist. She’s raced as a Category 1 cyclist (which is the most competitive racing classification out there) and even formed her own local women’s race team. She just completed the SF Haute Route where she cycled 300 miles and climbed 20,350 feet of elevation in 3 days...back to back. That’s how cool she is. Nowadays you can (try to) catch her riding her bike around Marin County, although she’s always looking’ to leave tracks around the world. She has her sight set on riding the Italian Dolomites Challenge this September. It’s the same track that the pros battle on during the classic Giro D’Italia, and we have no doubt she'll emerge vittorioso!

Cool store, friendly staff, good prices. It's literally set up like a basement, all in all better than dicks
John runs an efficient and inviting Bike Department at the Santa Rosa location. He communicates clearly with customers over the most complex and technical mechanical fixes and diagnoses. I ...
Staff was very helpful as I looked for cycling items. And they added cashiers when the line only had three people.
