We keep it green at the Basement
You may have noticed that our logo is green, but our green-ness goes much deeper thant that! Each of our stores has collection bins for you to recycle those mistery items you're not sure what to do with, from energy bar wrappers (they get turned into bags!) to climbing ropes (they get turned into leashes for rescue pups!). In fact, we recently won an award for our recycling program! Specific recycling is listed on each store page.
But being green is about reducing wast too—that's why we introduced our refillable propane program! Basementeers who buy a refillable propane canister from us can refill it for free, forever. So far, we've saved nearly 11,000 canisters from landfills!
When we think ‘gearhead’ we think of Rich. He joined us after we had just started being open 7 days a week, back in 2000. He started out working nights at our events, but being the avid backpacker & bike rider he is, it wasn’t long before he came on full time to help build out our backcountry department. He used to memorize every backcountry catalog & magazine he could find so that he could talk about any kind of product a customer would wanna know about. Since being at SB, he’s dabbled in triathlons, completing 6 half Ironmans, and even had a stint in Ultra running, participating in 10 races including a 100 miler. Now-a-days, he’s outside with his wife and his adorable dogs as often as can be, and his passion for building has stayed strong! He’s always working on projects, from remodeling our Campbell store to remodeling his house.
Stafflete Donna Troyna
Donna Troyna is kind of a superhero. She's been working for Sports Basement for almost 8 years, starting her career over at our Walnut Creek store and moving up in the ranks to become the manager of our Sunnyvale store's receiving department. She works hard, yeah, but trust us when we say that this woman runs hard, too. She's so humble and so sweet, but she racks up cred every time she laces up her Altras.
Need examples? Donna just completed her 122nd marathon (nope, no extra numbers there, that's really one hundred and twenty two) and she also recently completed her 31st Big Sur International Marathon. Beyond that, she's the only active female member of the Big Sur Grizzled Vets, and she's the only woman to have completed 31 of the Big Sur Marathons. She IS #fitnessgoals. And she's a dog lover, too! She shows and trains Basenjis (catch 'em in her video, they're far too cute for words, and so well-trained!) What's her lie? She's not into swimming. I mean, she can't be great at everything, after all.
You like us! You really like us!
